It became apparent that people wanted to come and enjoy the beach while topping off the day with a tasty breakfast, lunch, dinner, midday snack, beverage, or dessert. 
A Dream Come True Figtree\'s Cafe was a dream that became a reality in 1978 with the help of loving friends and family... particularly Emmy, Tami\'s mother, who was hostess extraordinaire for 18 years. For Emmy, it was truly a labor of love.
It seemed like Venice Beach, the "Greenwich Village" of Los Angeles, was the perfect location for our fantasy coffeehouse. Our special little place on the beach filled a great community need -- a place to kick back and meet friends, watch the beach scene, listen to live music nightly, play chess, have a state-of-the-art cappuccino, and maybe have a homemade raisin bran muffin, or a bowl of chili (that was cooked on a hot plate).
As time went by, in 1983, Bill and Tami Feigenbaum (German translation is Figtree) added a full menu featuring the simple things they enjoyed preparing at home. They also added a bakery specializing in unique desserts using whole grains and natural sweeteners. People came from all over Los Angeles to experience the fresh and delicious taste combinations that Bill was inventing daily.

Figtree\'s soon became famous for its bountiful breakfasts and extraordinary salads , sandwiches, and pastries as well as many specialty dishes. Bill and Tami now had a full time restaurant, a far cry from their previous careers as teachers in the Los Angeles City School System. It was clear that working together at Figtree\'s was the life they had longed for. They had a common goal - to serve delicious, fresh, healthful food in a warm embracing environment conducive to relaxing with friends and family. And for 27 years now they have been dazzling the crowds along the Venice Beach Boardwalk doing just that. It is a jewel of a place in a sea of fast "beach" food.
Don\'t forget to taste or take home something from our bakery such as our fabulous housemade currant or apricot scones, fresh fruit crisps, our homemade apple pie, chocolate-espresso brownies, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and more. Also featured is a complete list of espresso drinks, smoothies, organic herbal, black and green teas; herbal elixirs (invigorating tonics for the mind, body and spirit!), imported beers and fine wines.
We happily cater to customers with special dietary requirements.
